Absinthesis

About the pictures

Image rights

Most pictures on this site are in the public domain in the United States. The rest are photographs their photographers share under open licenses, credited by name under each photo. Each one is listed here with why it is free to use and where the original lives.

The Absinthesis sign in the header and on the home page poster is cut from the re-lettered photograph of the Place de Clichy entrance listed below (photo by MOSSOT, CC BY 3.0), with the enamel cleaned and the frame trimmed away.

The little green fairy over the sign on the home page is the Autumn Fairy by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, from her book Elves and Fairies, published in Melbourne in 1916. She is cut out of the scan and her dress and wings are recoloured green. Published in 1916, before 1931, so she is in the public domain in the United States. Original: archive.org. The corner ornaments on the home page poster come from an ornament by Alphonse Mucha printed in Historical Paintings of the Slavic Nations in 1921, with the leaves coloured green. Published before 1931, so in the public domain in the United States, and Mucha died in 1939. Original: Wikimedia Commons. The first edition is recorded by the Western Australian Museum.
